Arriving by bicycle (from Bayreuth)
For the shortest route (25 km) via Heinersreuth and Neudrossenfeld you need about 1.5 hours by bicycle. The scenic Main Cycle Path (Main-Radweg) ist 37 km long.
Getting here by car or by car-sharing (parking garage):
B85 from Bayreuth: B85 to Kulmbach, drive towards the city center via Wilhelm-Meußdoerffer-Straße. Follow the road (passes into Pestalozzistraße) then turn left into Hans-Hacker-Straße. The multi-storey car park is on the right-hand side in the fritz shopping center.
A9/A70/B85 from Bayreuth: A9 (Berlin) and A70 (Bamberg) up to the exit Neudrossenfeld/Kulmbach and from there B85 to Kulmbach. Drive towards the city center via Wilhelm-Meußdoerffer-Straße, continue as above.
B85 from Kronach: Take the B85 to Kulmbach until it passes into Hans-Hacker-Straße. The multi-storey car park is on the left-hand side in the fritz shopping centre.
B289 from direction Lichtenfels: Follow B289 to Kulmbach and then take the exit B85 towards Kronach/Kulmbach/Flughafen. Turn right onto Saalfelder Straße and follow it until it passes into Hans-Hacker-Straße. The multi-storey car park is on the left-hand side in the fritz shopping centre.
Arrival by local public transport
There are numerous bus and train connections to Kulmbach, the semester ticket of the University of Bayreuth allows free use of various types of public transport. Since June 2023 the "Campus Line" is operational, connecting Campus Kulmbach and Campus Bayreuth directly by bus.
Both the bus terminal (ZOB) and the Kulmbach train station are right next to the campus.
Arrival by long-distance public transport
The nearest ICE train stations are in Bamberg, Coburg and Nuremberg. The Deutsche Bahn (German Railway) and private railway companies connect these cities with Kulmbach.
Arrival by plane
The closest international airports are in Nuremberg (~110km), Munich (~250km), and Frankfurt / Main (~270km) - Leipzig (~200 km) and Dresden (~240 km) are not easily accessible by public transport from Kulmbach.
